Morcheeba
Audio Clip: "Enjoy the Ride" Can't afford a time machine? Here's a two-word alternative: trip-hop. Takes you back, doesn't it? Maybe that's why Morcheeba started branching out after two discs of the trendy, almost instantly dated stuff (though brothers Paul and Ross Godfrey still failed to retain vocalist Skye Edwards for the long haul). After replacing Edwards with a single singer for 2005's The Antidote, the Godfreys enlist several on Dive Deep -- and mostly unknown vocalists at that. Three tracks go to Norwegian singer/wimp Thomas Dybdahl, who helps accentuate the melodies rather than the beats on songs such as "Riverbed" and "Washed Away," while almost-forgotten English singer Judie Tzuke grits up "Enjoy the Ride" and "Blue Chair." There's nothing here you haven't heard before, or won't likely hear again on some future elevator ride, but at least it goes down easy. -- Joshua Klein |
