Sure, it's named after a cartoon moose (as in the Rocky variety), but the animals you'll find at Bullwinkle's are the kind who like doing it like they do on the Discovery channel. When it opened in 1979, Bullwinkle's was a Western-themed saloon with an older, pool-hall feel to it. These days, though, the hitching posts out front corral huge groups of stumbling Florida State students looking for a good time -- and someone to go home with.

The Scene: "After 12:30, it'll be one person in and one person out, and hang onto your hats," said Dickson Hunley, Bullwinkle's general manager. No wonder it's always crowded: Located smack dab in the middle of Tallahassee's famed Tennessee Strip, Bullwinkle's laid-back atmosphere and slick pick-up scene have made it a favorite with FSU's 21 and up crowd. Carrie, an FSU sociology major, can vouch for it: "I have a problem with commitment, so I just come here looking for a good time," she says.

Whatever scene you're into, Bullwinkle's has it: Go crazy on the dance floor, hang out on the back deck and listen to live music, or just sit at one of the joint's 10 bar stations and sip a little good whiskey. Our favorite is the side bar, which features dozens of pairs of lacy underwear strung right next to pics of Dubya and Mrs. Bush -- Tallahassee is the state capital, after all.

Chicks at Bullwinkle's: Florida State is known for its hotties, and Bullwinkle's showcases some of the very finest. "The women here are ridiculous," says Brian, a merchandising major. "Some of these girls should be models, but they're still approachable. There's such a variety, too. You've got smart girls, fun girls, and girls who are cheaper than the drink specials."

When to Go: The dance floor is packed on Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays, while Sundays and Mondays are reserved for those who want to slug cheap beer and listen to acoustic guitar.

Dress Code: You can wear whatever you want, whenever you want. Girls sometimes club it up with short skirts and tube tops, but guys usually dress down with khaki shorts and flip-flops.

At the Bar: Sundays and Mondays, quarter beers; Tuesdays and Thursdays, $2 top-shelf drinks; Wednesdays and Fridays, all-you-can-drink specials. For his regular customers, owner Steve Bailey also offers the Thirsty Moose Club, which includes a discount card that lets you drink on the cheap.
