Why Louise Bordeaux loves Kal Uchis’ “I Wish You Roses”

“It’s a little bit sad, which is…I don’t know. I like sad music. It kind of makes me happy if that makes sense.  It makes me feel. It’s also a song that you can play in the background…it’s not too intense. I also like that her voice sounds like an instrument, like it’s mixed in well with the rest of the song.”

Columbian American R&B singer Kali Uchi’s “I Wish You Roses” is the lead single of her album “Red Moon in Venus” which was released in March 2023. Three days before the single was released, Kali Uchi teased the song with a video of a gelatinous cake with a rose in the center.

The music video for the song was released on the same day as the single, and recreates scenes from the 1999 film “American Beauty,” including the iconic rose petal scene.

According to an interview with Rolling Stone, “I Wish You Roses” is about “being able to release people with love.” Louise loves how original Kal Uchi’s sound is, especially when it comes to other popular music.

“I like her sound because it’s R&B with a Latin feel to it. But I also find that her lyrics are deep, which I think is something that sometimes is lacking in mainstream music,” Louise said. “It just flows really well and her sound is great.”
