The Big Ten and SEC have been viewed as rival football conferences for quite some time now. Incidentally, it is not often that we see two powerhouse brands meeting so early in the season, but that’s precisely what we’ll have. In Saturday’s coveted primetime slot, prepare for College GameDay with Michigan vs. Texas in Ann Arbor.
College GameDay: Maize & Blue or Burnt Orange?
On Friday, DraftKings Sportsbook labeled the Longhorns as seven-point road favorites for this weekend’s tilt at “The Big House.”
The ‘Horns and Wolverines almost never share the gridiron together. All fans of college football remember the 2005 Rose Bowl, when Texas edged out U-M for a contentious 38-37 victory. When it comes to this head-to-head series, that’s all there is to remember. The Wolverines and Longhorns have played only one previous football game versus one another.
No. 10 Michigan did well to win last week while hosting Fresno State but the victory lacked that same dominance we are used to from the Maize & Blue. Ultimately, U-M used a 17-point fourth quarter to pull away from the Bulldogs.
For the No. 3 Longhorns’ 2024 opener, they suffocated Colorado State via submission with a 52-0 chokehold. UT quarterback Quinn Ewers was particularly sharp. The junior signal-caller passed for 260 yards and three touchdowns with a 74.1% completion clip. Last month, Playboy released a “5 Buzziest NFL Quarterbacks Entering 2024-25” list. Simply, if we did one for college football, Ewers would be on it.
So, what will it be this weekend—”Horns Up” or “Go Blue”? For what it’s worth, Texas comes in third of 132 schools on ESPN’s latest SP+ rankings, which is nine spots ahead of Michigan.
Surveying The Field
These days, social media and sports betting go hand-in-hand. Whether for quick dissemination or the ability to creatively craft content, the two industries thrive off one another like gas to a flame.
Let’s stroll the digital avenues to find the best bets — or ones that are building public steam — for Michigan vs. Texas. Keep in mind: kickoff from Michigan Stadium is on Saturday, September 7 at noon ET. Being that this is College GameDay’s featured event for CFB Week 2, FOX will serve as the national broadcaster.
After Friday night’s Northwestern vs. Duke contest, all college football eyes will be on the ‘Horns and Wolverines.
