The enigmatic and energetic Mark Cuban is not one to be coy about his opinion in the public sphere. Whether courtside with his beloved Dallas Mavericks or on Shark Tank as a cunning investor, Cuban is an animated communicator. Simply put, he’ll make sure you know how he feels.
An election year is perfect for some prime Mark Cuban.
On Wednesday, Cuban appeared on a CNN live broadcast to vent his feelings on former President Donald Trump‘s desired policies. In a bit of UNO-reverse-card fashion, the serial founder used Trump’s own words against him.
Trump – who is in his third election cycle as the Republican presidential nominee – has frequently accused Vice President Kamala Harris of being a socialist. Cuban took that exact narrative and pitted it directly against what Trump has planned for the interest rates of credit card companies.
Cuban, a self-proclaimed independent, argued that Trump is displaying more aggressive socialist traits than Vermont senator Bernie Sanders. Sanders previously recommended a 15% cap on credit card interest rates, but Cuban says Trump is driving the dagger by calling for a 10% cap.
“The fact that [Trump] is even suggesting price controls and price caps is Socialism 101. You haven’t heard that from the vice president, you’ve heard that from Donald Trump,” a fiery Mark Cuban said to CNN.
Of course, one thing Cuban and Trump have in common is their love for outward expression on television and social media (especially X). Both men speak with conviction on matters they hold passion for, but naturally, their views on those passions differ drastically.
At times, the 78-year-old former Commander-in-Chief has appeared uninterested and not engaged with the 2024 presidential election (as brilliantly articulated by my colleague recently). Getting flayed on national TV by a fiery combatant like Mark Cuban doesn’t help matters any.
