In our chat with Playboy Club model Ruby Dawn, she talks about her years living in Australia, her idea of a perfect day, and why Greece is her favorite trip she’s taken so far.

Playboy: Where were you born, and what was your experience growing up like?

Ruby Dawn: Growing up as a kid, I got to see a lot. I was actually born in California, but my parents were both models, so we traveled and moved around a lot. After living in California, then I moved to Miami, and then when I was only eight years old, after the 2008 crash happened, my family moved to Australia.

Playboy: Do you make it back to Australia frequently, or not so much after moving to the U.S.?

Ruby Dawn: I at least try to come back once a year, twice a year, if I can.

Playboy: What did you enjoy most about your school experience, or did you like school? And if not, why not?

Ruby Dawn: Starting school in America and then quickly moving to Australia in a small local beach town, it was definitely a big change. I was excited for something new, but I wasn’t really sure how different it would be. So most of the kids from my school in Australia were born and raised there, and some of their parents and grandparents, so it was very local, and it was definitely a pressure to fit into the mold. So I really liked school and being right by the beach, but high school was a little bit hard, and I couldn’t wait to be old enough to work and travel.

Playboy: What was the first thing that you dreamed of achieving?

Ruby Dawn: I think as a young girl, I just always wanted to move back to America, and I wasn’t sure what I was going to do, but I was just I knew that I was going to be successful. I’ve always wanted to either do dance or be a model, and just always wanted to be successful and live like my own life, you know?

Playboy: Do you feel at the point in your life that you’re in that you’ve achieved some of what you wanted?

Ruby Dawn: I definitely think I have.

Playboy: What are your favorite places to travel and bucket list places that you still really want to go to?

Ruby Dawn: My favorite place that I’ve been so far has been Greece. I absolutely loved it, Santorini was my favorite. It was the most romantic, beautiful place I’ve ever seen. And as far as bucket list, I definitely want to go Dubai. I think I’m going there for my birthday. I just love how they made something out of nothing. I want to see all the buildings and just the way they built on a desert.

Playboy: What are some things that you’re very passionate about?

Ruby Dawn: Creating art. I love taking photos, and when I’m taking my photos, I like to be sexy, to be creative, and I like to give people happiness when they see my photos. I like people to be like, “Wow. That’s beautiful.”

Playboy: What would make you ghost someone that you were interested in?

Ruby Dawn: I’ve never really been the ghosting type, because I like to give closure for reasons of us not working out. I wouldn’t want to be ghosted either, but the only times I would ghost would be if you’ve done something wrong in my eyes, and I feel like someone’s being dishonest or controlling, then I don’t feel safe.

Playboy: What are your turn-ons and turn-offs?

Ruby Dawn: So what turns me on is people who are deep. I love deep conversations. I love smart people, somebody who can stimulate my mind and my heart, and someone I feel like I have the freedom to do anything with. And another turn-on for me would be when a guy takes care of his body and regularly works out. My turn-offs would be when someone is unmotivated or only thinks of the glass as half empty instead of the glass half-full.

Playboy: Describe your perfect day.

Ruby Dawn: My perfect day would be waking up somewhere new. I love to travel, so somewhere on a beach or by the water and going to work out in the morning, eating breakfast, then going for a walk on the beach and just tanning and then going out to a nice restaurant.

Playboy: What’s the best piece of advice that you’ve gotten in your life so far?

Ruby Dawn: “Love yourself and the rest will follow.” My mother always taught me self love is very important to a happy life. When you have love and confidence in yourself, you can love others.

Playboy: What is one setback that you feel women face in the world, and how do you personally fight against that?

Ruby Dawn: One setback, I would say, not believing themselves and not having confidence, because at the end of the day, confidence is what gets you through the door and what gets you what you want. So I definitely think that self love and confidence, believing in yourself, is the number one tip to to get anything or achieve anything you want.
