Lacy cooling off.

PLAYBOY: Let’s start at the beginning—where were you born & raised?

Lacy Ann Love: I was raised in Honolulu and born in Waimānalo, which is on the east side of O’ahu.

PLAYBOY: Do you have a New Year’s resolution? If not, what in 2025 are you most excited for?

Lacy Ann Love: My 2025 New Year’s resolution is to continue delving into my culture, my community and being of service. It’s about doing something for others while utilizing everything that I’ve gained and learned, especially when helping other women and children.

PLAYBOY: How did your relationship with PLAYBOY start?

Lacy Ann Loves: I actually received a DM on Instagram asking about it! My interest mainly stemmed from the writing and the magazine. They’ve covered such controversial topics and I really felt like it was a platform for me to speak as a native Hawaiian, not just a girl from Hawai’i.  In the past, PLAYBOY has featured many girls from Hawai’i, but not as much from a native-cultural aspect. That intrigued me to cooperate with the platform—bringing awareness.

PLAYBOY: Tell me about East Side Studio and what you do there.

Lacy Ann Love: It’s a fitness studio in Hilo that caters to men, women and children. As noted, Hilo, which is on the Big Island of Hawai’i, is a predominantly native community. Prior to me moving here full-time to Hilo, I noticed that there was a disparity in fitness. There wasn’t anything that was specifically for the feminine, and that is offered at East Side Studio.

Another reason I opened this studio was to give scholarships for teachers to build more economic stability within the fitness and wellness industry. I also want to give opportunity to single moms and other natives that can’t necessarily afford the $45 Pilates drop-in or the $100 private class.

I think that fitness, in general, is a very luxury item. If you have money, then you can go and work out. Otherwise, there is this disparity gap, and I hope that East Side Studio can represent the closing of that gap.

PLAYBOY: You are a very culturally connected person. What is it about Hawaiian practices like surfing and lua that are good for the soul?

Lacy Ann Love: Hula is actually derived from Lua, which is a martial art. It’s a war dance! It wasn’t really a dance for entertainment. It became a commercialized entertainment during the reign of Kalākaua.

Surfing — or Papa He’e Nalu — is definitely a connection to the ocean and nature. I love surfing. It brings out the inner child in me for sure. I love the water and dropping in.  I love watching the sun rise from the ocean. I love watching the water breathe. I even love when there’s people who can’t surf in the water because you can just watch them and it’s pretty entertaining. Surfing is definitely one of the things that changed my life. It’s what made me become a carver. It’s what made me become a water woman.

I love surfing. It’s my thing. I love farming. I love forestry. I love connecting to nature. And the way that it heals me is through the fact that it humbles me. It is very humbling to realize that you are so insignificant in this massive world and it really helps put into perspective a balance.

PLAYBOY: When traveling to the mainland, where are your favorite spots to surf?

Lacy Ann Love: I love surfing in Canada and Japan. Honestly, California has really big seaweed, which can be scary at times. In Canada, I love Tofino. Of course, I’ll always love Waikiki. That is my home break for life! From there, I would like to go to the Maldives. That’s like my dream trip!

PLAYBOY: What are some aspects of life that make you feel most beautiful?

Lacy Ann Love: I think having purpose and serving my community makes me feel most beautiful. Nothing on the outside will ever change my responsibility that I have toward my community. That doesn’t just mean Hawaiians—it means anyone who is within my reach of influence. That could be online, that could be in person. Walking and treading lightly to know my impact on people and other things is beautiful to me.

PLAYBOY: Upcoming, what should PLAYBOY readers be on the lookout for from you?

Lacy Ann Love: Look for me teaching more classes, scholarshipping more women, and launching my own clothing line. Also, look out for me more on the Playboy Club!
