What’s the difference between dressing up and cosplay? Is it the quality of the outfit? The specificity of the character? To us, cosplay, is above all, selling the character. And there’s no better accessory when it comes to great cosplay than confidence. All that said, Playboy Club creator Sasha West‘s take on Princess Leia is on point, and practically flawless.
Why Sasha West Loves Princess Leia
“She’s one of my favorite characters because she resembles strength, resilience, and beauty,” Sasha told PLAYBOY.
Among science fantasy fans, are there any women more beloved than Princess Leia? Since appearing in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope back in 1977, audiences adored Leia smashing previous hackneyed archetypes of the typical damsel in distress. However, her “Slave Leia” costume took her appeal into hyperdrive. This is the rendition of the character Sasha West is choosing to cosplay as, and her take is simple, but effective.
“She’s iconic,” Sasha says. “The costume came from the Spirit Halloween, and luckily it fit just right.”
Who is Princess Leia?
Oh boy. At this point, asking the question, “Who is Princess Leia?” is sort of like asking the question, “Who is Batman?” It’s quite likely you already know most of what there is to know about the popular Star Wars protagonist. However, here’s a little sci-fi nerdery for all the casual fans.
Princess Leia full name is Leia Organa. She’s a princess of the Planet Alderaan, but also serves in the Imperial Senator, and secretly working with the Rebel Alliance. This is when we first meet her, of course. She eventually helps lead two different insurrections of an evil empire, though sadly, did not live long enough to see the second excursion through. Leia was most famously portrayed by Carrie Fisher, but has been voiced in video games and animated series by many actresses including Grey DeLisle, April Winchell, and Shelby Young.
