Playboy Club creator and disability advocate Mia Moxiee is from a small beach community, and came from a family of Volkswagen van drivers. Instead of continuing the family tradition, Mia recently splurged on a Mercedes, which is a far more practical vehicle for getting around crowded California freeways.

Why Mia loves her Mercedes-Benz GLK
“I bought this car last year,” Mia told Playboy in an interview. “I called it my first big girl purchase. It gave me so much Independence and so much freedom…having a good reliable car that I could go out and start working more fun jobs. It’s very Newport Beach.”
The Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class was a line of compact luxury crossover SUVs manufactured from 2008 to 2015 after debuting at the Beijing Auto Show in 2008. At the height of its popularity, Mercedes sold 35,000 GLKs in 2014.
This class gets its acronym from Geländewagen Luxus Kompaktklasse, which loosely translates to “Luxury compact class off-road vehicle.” After being discontinued in 2015, the line was succeeded by the Mercedes-Benz GLC line. Because of a driveshaft it utilized to to operate its front wheels, Mercedes-Benz GLK wasn’t available in left-hand traffic countries like the United Kingdom and Australia.
For Mia, purchasing the car was an adventure in itself. Luckily, she had a some friends who came in the clutch that helped her navigate the typically arduous car-buying process.
“I had to go through lots of different hoops,” Mia said. “I had to call on friends to help figure it all out, but I finally found a car that I liked, and I will forever be grateful for that.”
