Actress Olivia Munn is having quite the year.
After a heartbreaking breast cancer diagnosis that led Munn to have a double masectomy as well as a hysterectomy, she did a feature with People Magazine bravely telling her story and inspiring other cancer warriors all over the world.
When Munn and husband John Mulaney shared a new Instagram post on Sunday, September 22, the world learned that she had another surprise to share—and it’s a great one.
“Méi June Mulaney came into the world September 14, 2024, the year of the dragon🐉,” Munn wrote to accompany a photo of she and John with their newest family member.
Munn and Mulaney used a gestational surrogate for the pregnancy, as Munn was unable to carry a child after her hysterectomy.
“I had so many profound emotions about not being able to carry my daughter,” Munn said. “When I first met our gestational surrogate we spoke mother to mother. She showed me so much grace and understanding, I knew I had found a real-life angel. Words cannot express my gratitude that she kept our baby safe for 9 months and made our dreams come true.”
Munn also explained the meaning of the name she and Mulaney chose, which means “plum” in Chinese.
“I am so proud of my little plum, my little dragon for making the journey to be with us. My heart has exploded,” she wrote.
Despite being in her 9th month of pregnancy, Munn was posting encouraging videos about her breast cancer surgery in early September, only a week before Méi was born.
“I hope seeing it will help others going down the same path feel a little more comforted, and see that I’m doing okay,” she said.
