Ani-Mia’s Faye Valentine Cosplay is Out of This World

Ani-Mia
Here's looking at you, Ani-Mia.

Cosplay is a lot like snowflakes: every single one is unique. Sure, there may be thousands of Sailor Moons or Rita Repulsas out there, but every cosplayer brings a bit of themselves to the party which makes them stand out. The femme fatale from Cowboy Bebop is one of the most popular anime characters out there. Ani-Mia’s Faye Valentine cosplay is one of the coolest takes on the character.

Why Ani-Mia loves Faye Valentine from Cowboy Bebop

Cowboy Bebop was one of the first animes I ever watched, and younger me thought she was the epitome of a ‘bad girl’, who has a hard outer shell but over time learns to trust others and develop connections,” Ani-Mia told PLAYBOY. “Plus, she knows how to use what she has to get what she wants.”

Faye Valentine is one of the most iconic anime protagonists of all time. Aside from her character, her look is one that’s so stark and so recognizable that you can always pick it out in, let’s say, a crowded convention center. It’s popular for a reason: it’s just so friggin’ cool. The purple hair. Yellow leather. Midriff.

One of the most iconic cosplay moments from the pre-YouTube days was a schlubby take on Faye by one especially brave dude. Imaginative and hilarious interpretations of the character aside, our favorite Faye is definitely Ani-Ma’s. For her, Cowboy Bebop will always hold a special place in her heart.

“It was one of the first shows that got me into anime,” Ani-Ma says. “I never knew you could have such an action packed anime with the most amazing music accompanying it.”

Who is Faye Valentine from Cowboy Bebop?

I’m reticent to give readers homework, but if you haven’t watched Cowboy Bebop, you definitely should. That said, major spoilers ahead.

The young and beautiful Faye Valentine is in actuality 77 years old. Born in 1994, she was put in cryogenic sleep in 2014 after sustaining major injuries from a shuttle accident. Because Bebop is a neo-noir, Valentine’s past is shrouded in all that mystery that usually comes with a typical femme fatale.

Valentine is anything but typical, though, and remains a standout heroine with fans of the series and the anime genre. Initially, she’s closed off to Spike Spiegel and Jet Black, but eventually becomes a talented bounty hunter and dedicated Bebop team member.
