And despite the fact that the anime is older than the Nintendo GameCube, its popularity is only growing, especially in cosplay circles. Jihatsu’s Roronoa Zoro cosplay is a testament to the show’s timeless popularity.
Why Jihatsu loves Roronoa Zoro
“What I love most about him is that he will tell it like it is, he’s loyal, determined, and will give 110 percent to his captain,” Jihatsu told PLAYBOY. “I resonate with characters that want to be the best and train diligently to accomplish their goals.”
What would any Roronoa Zoro cosplay be without the right accessories? The katanas may help this cosplay pop, but not as much as Jihatsu’s natural confidence. Jihatsu’s impressive build is a testament to his discipline.
Not only does he train every day, but he uses his platform to encourage others to reach their fitness goals. There are few black anime characters, but for Jihatsu, cosplay isn’t about skin tone, it’s about passion, which is something he wants to impart on aspiring cosplayers.
“I truly embody Zoro when it comes reaching my own personal goals,” Jihatsu says. “I hope that others that want to give this hobby a try focus less on the outer appearance or canon of a character, and just have fun being who they want to be.”

Who is Roronoa Zoro?
You could probably explain Biblical canon quicker than the canon of One Piece. The anime follows the swashbuckling adventures of the goofy, but talented Monkey D. Luffy, the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates, as he sails the seas looking for the legendary “One Piece” treasure. If there’s any reason why One Piece has remained so popular after decades, it’s because its difficult comparing it to anything else.
That said, Roronoa Zoro is Luffy’s right hand man. Every good captain needs one. Zoro descends from a line of legendary samurai, hence his mastery of the “Three Sword Style,” which is exactly what it sounds like. As Jihatsu pointed out, Zoro is synonymous with diligence and loyalty, with dreams of becoming the best swordsman in the world.
