There was just no stopping Harley Quinn. While the character was made for Batman: The Animated Series, her popularity exploded, and now, she’s one of the most recognizable characters in comics. In cosplay circles, she’s equally ubiquitous, and at this point, there are probably more versions of Harley than Optimus Prime. Maweezy’s Harley Quinn cosplay is inventive, original, and hot.
Why Maweezy loves Harley Quinn
“Harley Quinn is one of the most beloved characters in the DC Universe and known for her complex character development, chaotic, yet relatable personality, and her badass anti-hero status,” Maweezy told PLAYBOY. “To most people, she’s seen as the villainous sidekick to Batman’s antithesis and archenemy Joker. But the real ones know that there are so many deep layers to HQ, as she represents resilience, self-discovery, and the power of embracing the chaos.”
As previously stated, there are countless Harley Quinns floating around out there, both canon and not. Maweezy’s take is based on two different high-end Play Arts Kai action figures. She made both cosplays by hand, using different materials including craft and EVA foam. Besides being a fan of Harley, Maweezy’s connection with this version of the anti-heroine is personal.
“When I’m not cosplaying, I’m a full time Registered Nurse,” Maweezy says. “So creating and wearing the Harley Quinn Nurse component of this cosplay was definitely a must.”

Who is Harley Quinn?
Harley Quinn was created by Bruce Timm and Paul Dini for Batman: The Animated Series, and was originally only supposed to appear in one episode. Of course, the character became an instant hit, and she appeared countless more times in that series, and in just about every Batman property since.
Her name is the villainous moniker of Dr. Harleen Frances Quinzel, a former Arkham Asylum psychologist who is manipulated by Joker into falling in love with him. Since then, she’s been an on-again, off-again sidekick to the clown prince of crime, but in recent years, she’s left behind her codependence and is making a name for herself. Her animated series Harley Quinn is one of the best animated superhero shows in some time, and packs a lot of fanservice into 30 minutes without being corny.
As for live-action, the character is almost synonymous with Margot Robbie, who’s portrayed Harley in Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey, and The Suicide Squad.
