Living in the X-Men universe, super powers run hot and cold. Some get useful abilities like being able to bend steel with their minds (Magneto). Others are cursed with hollow, brittle bones like a bird (Beak). But some abilities are practically godlike, and in the case of Ororo Munroe, goddess-like. Playboy Club model and cosplay queen Spidergemo’s Storm cosplay is blazing hot, ice cold, and totally electrifying.
Why Spidergemo Loves Storm
“I’ve always have been a huge fan of the silver hair/white eyes combo on people and I love the bodysuit!” Spidergemo told Playboy. “At the time, I was coming out of my shell and wasn’t used to to wearing just a bodysuit, bikinis, etc. Truthfully, she is my most recognized cosplay.”
Spidergemo’s Storm cosplay comprises different parts depending on the occasion. On stage, she wears the iconic black and gold, which is also the original look from the comics. The long white wig adds an edge to her burlesque performance. For Spidergemo, Storm is the perfect character, because, as previously stated, she runs hot and cold.
“She’s super powerful and is a balance of both compassion and wrath,” Spidergemo says. “The kindest in the room, but also a heavy hitter you don’t want to fuck with ya know?”
Who is Storm?
The mutant known as Storm first appeared in “Giant-Size X-Men” issue #1 way back in May of 1975. Storm was one of many new X-Men who were created as part of a push to give the comic series a more global appeal.
Outside of crime-fighting, Storm’s name is Ororo Munroe. Because of her globetrotting photojournalist father, Munroe was raised in both Cairo, Egypt and Harlem, New York. She was orphaned at a young age, so she turned to pickpocketing, but after meeting Professor Charles Xavier, she dedicated her life to greater purpose.
Storm, as her name dictates, has the power to command the weather. She can also fly, which is great, because it’s no fun conjuring thunder from terra firma. The character has been portrayed most famously by Academy Award winning actress Halle Berry, but Alexandra Shipp has played a younger version of Storm in a few movies.
