There is nothing certain in life but death, taxes, and new episodes of One Piece. The series that’s been running since the dial-up days hasn’t ended, and seemingly never will. At least we can hope, considering how satisfying it remains after more than two decades. The show continues to inspire devotion in fans, like the amazingly popular cosplayer Vampy, whose take on Nico Robin is better than buried treasure.
Why Vampy loves Nico Robin
“She struck me immediately with her intellect, faithfulness to her crew, emotional depth, not to mention, her insane Devil Fruit abilities,” Vampy told PLAYBOY. “She also has a sense of humor that I really love that’s similar to mine, which is dark. But I also like how she loves cute things at the same time.”
What’s the secret to the enormous success of One Piece? Can you think of any property with its longevity? Perhaps, its the mystique surrounding the show’s titular treasure. But we’re willing to bet its popularity comes from its amazing characters including Roronoa Zoro, Boa Hancock, and of course, Nico Robin. In large part, Vampy’s love of Nico comes from how similar she is to the character.
“I related to her in many ways with my past, how I grew into a more confident person through the years,” Vampy says. “Her faith in her friends and how she would do pretty much anything for them made me love her character.”

Who is Nico Robin?
One Piece characters often have more than one name, their second and third monikers alluding to their abilities or infamy. Nico Robin is also known as the “Devil Child,” “Miss All Sunday,” and the “Daughter of the Revolution.”
Explaining all of them would require far too much sweat, so we’ll touch on the backstory behind the Devil Child name. At a young age, Robin ate the Hana Hana no Mi Devil Fruit, which granted her the ability to reproduce body parts at will. She’s also lone survivor of the decimated West Blue Island Ohara. This, combined with her archaeology knowledge, makes her the only person in the world who can decipher Poneglyphs, which grant their reader forbidden knowledge.
