The Super Bowl Nachos Recipe:
Ingredients:
- 2 bags of tortilla chips
- 2 cups of cheddar cheese
- 1 cup of extra sharp cheddar
- 1 whole onion
- 1 cup chopped lettuce
- 2 to 5 cloves of garlic
- 1½ pounds of ground turkey
- 1½ TSP olive oil
- 2 TSP salt
- 1 TBL chili powder
- 1½ TSP ground cumin
- 1 TSP ground black pepper
- ½ TSP ground paprika
- ¼ TSP garlic powder
- ¼ TSP onion powder
- ¼ TSP crushed red pepper flakes
- ¼ TSP dried oregano
- 2 TBL red wine
- Jalapeños to taste (optional)
- Sour cream to taste (optional)
Directions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F. You’ll need a large sheet tray to lay out your two bags of chips.
- Lay one bag of chips onto a large baking sheet.
- Mix together cheddar and extra sharp cheddar. Spread half the cheese on top of the first bag of chips.
- Grab a large saucepan or skillet and add olive oil to medium heat.
- While that pan is heating up, dice your onion and garlic. Add to hot pan until translucent and aromatic.
- Add ground turkey to pan. While your meat browns, add in all of the seasonings: salt, chili powder, cumin, black pepper, paprika, garlic and onion powder, red pepper flakes and dried oregano.
- Once the meat has browned, add in red wine. Let simmer.
- Put your tray with half the chips and half the cheese into the oven for 2-5 minutes, or until cheese melts.
- Once the cheese has melted over the first bag of chips, add a layer of meat, the second bag of chips on top and the rest of the cheese. Return to oven for another 2-5 minutes.
- Remove nacho tray from oven and top with remaining ground turkey and lettuce. This is when you can make the nachos your own by adding your favorite toppings: sour cream, jalapeños, bell pepper—whatever you’d like!
According to Kalena, the recipe serves about 12-16 adults, which can easily be doubled for larger parties. In terms of overall cook time, these Super Bowl nachos take about an hour to prep and make.
Super Bowl LIX between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles is scheduled for February 9 at 6:30 p.m. ET on FOX (Tubi subscribers can tune in via livestream). Jon Batiste will sing the National Anthem while Kendrick Lamar has the halftime show.
