As a Leo, I believe every holiday gathering should be as vibrant and dynamic as I am — so I’ve put together some bold, show-stopping cocktails that’ll outshine even the most laid-back Virgo or shy Cancer. With my 10 years of bartending experience, I’m confident  these drinks are sure to make your holiday season unforgettable, no matter what your star sign.

1. Aries: Spiced Old Fashioned

Characteristics: Strong, Bold, Alluring

My mother is an Aries and she packs a punch like a Spiced Old Fashioned, but with her own flair and unique twist. And she lives up to the name, as I was raised in a very conservative household.

Recipe:
1.5 oz rye bourbon
0.25 oz brown sugar simple syrup
2 dashes aromatic bitters
2 dashes orange bitters

Stir and serve over a large ice cube in a rocks glass. Garnish with an orange peel and a cinnamon stick.

2. Pisces: Pomegranate Martini

Characteristics: Ethereal, Dreamy, Elusive

I’m a Pisces moon and I definitely encompass the “manic pixie dream girl” vibe that is associated with the free flowing water sign. Your moon sign is how you express your emotions. I constantly have my head in the clouds and live in a dream world where “nothing’s real” and I feel everything so deeply.

Recipe:
1.5 oz vodka
1.5 oz PAMA pomegranate liqueur
0.5 oz simple syrup (or leftover syrup from Aries)
1 fresh lime squeeze

Shake and strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a sugared rim.

3. Aquarius: Maple Bourbon Sour

Characteristics: Independent, Observant, Creative

I have Saturn in Aquarius in my natal chart, so I am quick to detach when it comes to letting go of jobs or career paths. I’ve actually been fired from a lot of jobs, due to my inability to conform to specific social constructs. I work best when I’m able to have creative freedom and express my opinions.

Recipe:

1.5 oz bourbon
0.5 oz maple syrup
1.5 oz sour mix (or 1 fresh lemon squeeze)

Shake and strain over ice into a rocks glass. Garnish with a cinnamon stick or dash of cinnamon.

4. Capricorn: Mezcal Cranberry Margarita

Characteristics: Ambitious, Outgoing, Materialistic

With Uranus, Neptune, and the North Node in Capricorn in my chart, it’s very on brand for me to shake up the status quo; these placements contribute to my drive of turning my ethereal dreams into reality. I can’t work a standard 9-5, my thoughts are too big for a cubicle.

Recipe:

1.5 oz Mezcal
0.5 oz cranberry schnapps
Fresh lime juice
Shake and strain over ice into a rocks glass with a salted rim.
Garnish with cranberries and a lime wedge.

5. Sagittarius: Rosemary Cranberry Mojito

Characteristics: Competitive, Direct, Charismatic

Every man that I’ve ever had an instant connection with has been a Sagittarius. Sagittarius men are competitive, extroverted and just the right amount of narcissistic to capture my attention for long periods of time. I love a man who is in charge.

Recipe:

8 mint leaves
5 cranberries
1 orange slice
1.5 oz rum
0.5 oz rosemary-infused simple syrup

Shake and strain into a highball glass. Top with soda water and garnish with an orange wedge and cranberries. For rosemary syrup: Dissolve equal parts sugar and water, infuse with rosemary overnight.

6. Scorpio: Four Horsemen Caroling

Characteristics: Intense, Deep, Magnetic

I’m a Scorpio rising. Your rising sign is how others perceive you. Scorpio’s are associated with deep sensuality and a darkness that is mysterious and alluring. I lean into my rising sign and present as “the villain”, meaning I’ll use my sensuality and entice to get what I want.

Recipe:

0.25 oz Jack Daniel’s Fire
0.25 oz Johnny Walker
0.25 oz Jim Beam Fire
0.25 oz Jameson

Muddle 1 orange slice and add a splash of orange juice. Shake and strain over ice into a rocks glass. Garnish with a cinnamon stick.

7. Libra: Peppermint White Russian

Characteristics: Quirky, Artistic, Expansive

Some of my closest friends are Libras and their level headedness and diplomacy brings balance to our relationship. I am very impulsive and live “for the vibes”, meaning I’ll do anything three times. It’s nice to have a friend reign me in, because I can be wild if left unattended too long.

Recipe:

1 oz vodka
0.75 oz Kahlua
0.75 oz peppermint schnapps
1 oz half-and-half

Shake and strain over ice in a rocks glass. Garnish with a peppermint candy or candy cane.
For extra flair, crush candy canes and rim the glass.

8. Virgo: Cranberry Pomegranate Gin & Tonic

Characteristics: Intellectual, Timeless, Curious

Mercury, Venus and Mars all lie within the sign of Virgo, creating a strong stellium for me (a stellium is when three or more planets fall into the same sign). This means I am very strategic and analytical when approaching love and war. I am quick to separate my emotions and base relationships just off of the facts. This also means that I plot in taking revenge when someone wrongs me.

Recipe:

1.5 oz gin
0.5 oz PAMA pomegranate liqueur
3 oz cranberry juice

Shake and strain into a rocks glass. Top with tonic and garnish with fresh cranberries.

9. Leo: Espresso Martini with Reposado Tequila

Characteristics: Confident, Loyal, Dramatic

My sun is in Leo and I wholeheartedly embrace it. I think I’m the tallest and the best thing to ever grace the planet. 5’1” but my personality is 6’4”. I thrive off of the limelight and excel in social settings, but I also am loyal to a fault—sometimes to the wrong people. Heart of a lion.

Recipe:

2 oz reposado tequila
1 oz espresso
1 oz coffee liqueur (Mr. Black)

Shake vigorously and strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with three espresso beans.

10. Cancer: Empress French 75

Characteristics: Passionate, Intuitive, Sentimental

Unlike the emotional sign of Cancer, I struggle to express deep emotion. I shock people with my dark sense of humor and I tend to make a joke when I’m feeling vulnerable or uncomfortable. It’s hard for me to connect through physical touch. My love languages are gift giving and words of affirmation.

Recipe:

1 oz Empress Gin
0.5 oz simple syrup
0.25 oz fresh lemon juice
Shake and strain into a flute glass.

Top with champagne and garnish with a lemon twist.

11. Gemini: Cinnamon Peppermint Shot

Characteristics: Versatile, Social, Impulsive

Similar to Gemini, I feel as though there are two people living inside of me and which one you get is dependent upon you. On one end there is an empathetic, nurturing, gentle person who wants to pour 100% of themselves into everyone I meet and on the other end, a person who believes in capital punishment.

Recipe:

0.75 oz Fireball Whiskey
0.75 oz Rumchata Peppermint

Shake and serve in a shot glass. Top with whipped cream (optional).

12. Taurus: Cinnamon Whiskey Mule

Characteristics: Consistent, Reliable, Perseverant

I resonate with Taurus placements because I too can be stubborn. Apologizing first feels like admitting defeat in a battle. I’ll often send a funny meme or humorous text in an effort to move past a dicey situation or argument.

Recipe:

1.5 oz cinnamon whiskey
0.5 oz simple syrup
1 oz fresh lime juice

Shake and strain into a copper mug filled with ice. Top with ginger beer and garnish with a cinnamon stick.
