Black Barbie Adores the Raw Lyrics of Sabrina Carpenter’s Music

Black Barbie
Brave. Bold. Espresso.

While everyone was having a Brat Summer with Charlie XCX, or dreaming about the Pink Pony Club with Chappell Roan, there’s a third contender for 2024’s most iconic voice. Sabrina Carpenter inspires as much devotion as the previously mentioned divas, though her drama-stirring abilities are unmatched. Playboy Club model Black Barbie is one of many who resonate with Sabrina Carpenter’s pop hooks and intense lyrics.

Why Black Barbie loves Sabrina Carpenter

“I just love how fun she is, how open she is. She’s not afraid to call people out, tell people what she’s done,” Black Barbie told Playboy. “She embraces the fact that people sexualize her, and she just stays true to herself.”

“Short n’ Sweet” is Sabrina Carpenter’s fifth studio album, but easily her most popular one. It landed on the airwaves with a bang, and became her first Platinum record overall. Two of the album’s hit singles, “Espresso” and “Please Please Please” came out earlier in April and June, respectively, both to instant acclaim. Just before the release of those songs, Carpenter was opening for Taylor Swift on The Eras Tour.

“…I’m grateful for my inability to turn my brain off at times because that’s when I come up with ideas,” Carpenter said in an interview with Cosmo about her stint on the tour. “I feel creative. I feel excited.”

Each song on “Short n’ Sweet” is, as Black Barbie put it, unapologetically charged with sexual energy, vibes, and most of all, lyrics. The song with the most teeth is easily “Taste,” which is an anthem made for the arenas that Carpenter sells out. Like Alanis Morissette’s “You Ought Know,” the subject of the song’s angry lyrics are a mystery. Everyone has their guess as to whom Carpenter is singing “You’ll just have to taste me when he’s kissing you” at.

“I would love to add fuel to the fire and say that it’s about Camila Cabello,” says Black Barbie. “I don’t like her, and I never have.”
