Melancholy pop sounds like one of those genres you can only find in the depths of Soundcloud. But artists like Lana Del Rey have made catchy radio hits out of woe, misery, and yeah, even gloom. Why Isabella Lambourne Loves “Radio” by Lana Del Rey
“I’m a sucker for that kind of daydream kind of music,” Isabella told Playboy. “I really love Lana Del Rey. I really love those lyrics, I really love her voice. You can just get lost in her voice.”
The song “Radio” is from Del Rey’s colossal hit record “Born to Die.” It was not only the fifth best-selling album of the year, but it landed Del Rey several world records. In 2023, it became the second album by a woman to spend more than 500 weeks on the Billboard 200 charts.
“Radio” wasn’t one of the album’s six singles, but there isn’t a single track on “Born to Die” that isn’t celebrated by pop aficionados. The official song on YouTube has 60 million streams alone. And that’s not including countless fan-made lyric videos.
Despite the melancholy melody, the song is actually quite prideful. The catchy chorus is especially braggadocious.
