The biggest stars were the big winners.

The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards were held on Sept. 11, 2024 at UBS Arena in New Jersey, ushering in a new era of musical brilliance and honoring several new VMA winners, as well as some that have taken home the lil’ spaceman before.

To the surprise of exactly no one, “Good Luck, Babe!” chanteuse Chappell Roan took the award for Best New Artist, wearing a shimmering chainmail dress with a matching headpiece and a broad, beautiful smile. She dedicated the award to all the drag artists that inspired the look she’s become so well known for.

Taylor Swift predictably swept the event, winning seven awards including Artist of the Year, Best Pop Artist, Best Collaboration (with Post Malone), Video of the Year for “Fortnight,” and more.

Korean pop was also honored more heavily than in past shows, with all-male band Seventeen winning Best Group, Le Sserafim winning Best Push Performance for “EASY” and BLACKPINK’s Lisa winning Best K-pop award for her new song “Rockstar.

Sabrina Carpenter also took home best song for “Espresso,” but perhaps also biggest jawdrop of the evening for showing up in the same Bob Mackie outfit that Madonna wore to the Oscars in 1991.

Megan Thee Stallion also took home a few awards, including Best Trending VIdeo for “Mamushi” and Best Art Direction for “BOA.” Stallion has also been dabbling in the K-pop space as of late, collaborating with BTS’ RM on the recently released “Neva Play.”
