It doesn’t matter what time of day it is, there’s a good chance Alexandra Johns is in the middle of a dance. Alexandra sat down with us to talk about growing up in a small town, her inspirations, and the meal that always cheers her up when she’s feeling down.
Playboy: To start us off, where were you born?
Alexandra Johns: I was born in Washington, DC, at a women’s health hospital. It is no longer there. And I grew up in Northern Virginia. It was a really small, small city called Falls Church City. It was only two square miles, the whole entire town. I grew up Virginia my whole life.
Playboy: So are you a small town girl?
Alexandra: I am. It was very much of like a bubble, I would say, and I wanted to do everything to get out of it and explore the world. Yeah. I didn’t really like living in the bubble. I wanted to explore more, you know, parts of the world.
Playboy: What did you most enjoy in school?
Alexandra: My favorite thing in school was definitely art and being able to be with my friends, hanging out with them. I enjoyed doing music a lot, so I was making beats and songs, and definitely my getaway. Escape was going to my dance practice. My very first dance was ballet, then they did some jazz. But by far, hip hop was my favorite.
Playboy: Do you still dance competitively?
Alexandra: I don’t do it competitively anymore. I still like to go out and dance, and that definitely brings me a lot of joy. But I’m not doing dance currently at the moment. But I’ll wake up. And one of my first things that I like to do when I’m getting ready and getting my day started is dancing. Like, I’ll dance in the kitchen while I’m cooking. I’ll dance while I’m eating.
Playboy: Is it better than coffee?
Alexandra: It actually is, for sure.
Playboy: What kind of dancing are you doing when you’re getting up in the morning?
Alexandra: Lots of jumping up and running around like I like moving my hips a lot. My hips are definitely my go to.
Playboy: What makes you happiest?
Alexandra: What makes me happiest is a nice, relaxing spa day. That, and my pets. A massage, a facial, going to a spa, that really makes me feel like I’m taking care of myself. So anytime I’m taking care of myself…running a hot bubble bath. That’s when I feel the most at peace.
Playboy: What food do you reach for when you’re feeling blue?
Alexandra: I tend to go towards some steak and some rice. Steak is my go to. Medium rare. I would say I’m definitely a sauce girl. Everything I do, everything I eat, usually comes with a sauce.
Playboy: Yeah, what’s your favorite thing to splurge on?
Alexandra: Oh my gosh, clothes. Definitely clothes. I’m really digging Aloe right now. Anything I can put on that is that I can be ready and active for the day, because I know I’m either going to go to the gym that day or go on a walk. So anything that’s sporty, cute and tight fitting.
Playboy: Do you believe in astrology?
Alexandra: I do. So I’m a Capricorn, and I do feel very connected to it. I would say, I relate to being ambitious, very hardworking. I’m always working. And I would say sometimes I can be a little reserved at first, but when you get to know me, I’m very silly and crazy and fun.
I feel like I grew into my sign. Like, when I was younger, I wasn’t super into it, because I didn’t really feel like I could relate. But now that I’ve learned more about it, I see there’s so much more than just your son’s sign. You have other signs too involved in your chart.
Playboy: Who was the first fictional character that you fell in love with?
Alexandra: I would date it all the way back to Nancy Drew. I always wanted to be like Nancy Drew when I was younger. I wanted to be like a detective or some kind of agent.
Playboy: What quality do you find most desirable in a person?
Alexandra: I would say, somebody who sticks to their word. I think for me, actions speak a lot louder than words. So someone I see that carries out with what they speak on or practices, what they preach?
Playboy: What’s a talent you wish you had?
Alexandra: Oh my gosh. I wish I could surf. I’ve never been able to surf. I haven’t really tried it yet. So that would be really cool. Or doing, like, being able to do a flip, I think that would be so fun.
Playboy: Who is a woman that inspires you?
Alexandra: I would say first and foremost, my sister, Angelica. She was the first woman in my life that inspired me. She was a great all around person. She got all straight A’s all the time, was very well mannered, Had a great social life. She was a great role model in my life. And I would say any, any woman who’s an entrepreneur, that’s always inspiring to me.
