There’s a reason why Hollywood made so many westerns back in the day, other than it being a bankable genre. Los Angeles is a city that shouldn’t exist. For most of recorded history, it was a dry and desolate place, the perfect backdrop for wild west adventures. U.K. Playboy Club model Isabella Lambourne loves schlepping to California, especially if she can swing by one of our many horse ranches. Here’s why.
Why Isabella Lambourne Loves Los Angeles
“LA holds a really, big place in my heart. I just feel like it’s the place of dreams. It’s the place where I can live out my American dream even as a British girl. It’s just so magical.”
Los Angeles is one of the west coast’s oldest cities, and even predates America by a few years. When California was still a Spanish territory, it was given the intensely Catholic name “El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de Los Angeles.” This translates to “The Town of Our Lady the Queen of the Angels.” Try putting that on a t-shirt.
By the early 1900s, the Los Angeles Aqueduct was finished under the supervision of William Mulholland, which cared for the city’s growing water needs. There’s a truncated version of this story in the movie Chinatown. But we won’t digress here too long.
The 20th century transformed this once-backwater town into one of the world’s most sprawling metropolises. Many went so far as to dub Hollywood the Dream Factory. And why not? It’s the fountain from which popular culture flowed. At least until the internet came around.
Aside from the usual LA sights, Isabella took some time to visit a friend’s ranch in Chatsworth. Here, she took part in a photoshoot with some of the ranch’s noble steeds. It was her first time riding a horse, and by the looks of the shoot, Isabella is a natural.
At the end of the day, still Los Angeles represents hope to many. Anyone at all can make it here, even humble models from the green and pleasant lands of England.
“I really can’t explain it, but all I can say is that Los Angeles just gives me a certain kind of feeling in my heart and my soul,” Isabella said. “I just feel like it’s a magical place where opportunities come, and they come into fruition. It’s really special.”
