There’s no place like home, especially if the place you hang your head is within driving distance of a beach. Playboy creator Kylie Hammonds is in her element when she’s anywhere tropical, but she holds a soft spot in her heart for hidden enclaves like the ones on North Carolina’s Outer Banks.

“But I would say my ideal place to travel to would be somewhere with a beach. I love the Outer Banks. It’s in North Carolina. I love little small—not hole in the wall, but—just smaller beaches that aren’t just filled with a bunch of tourists. I like when they’re smaller hometown places,” said Kylie.
North Carolina native Kylie thrives around beaches on the Outer Banks, which is a 200 mile strip of islands off the coast of the state.
While it’s not as ubiquitous a destination like Raleigh or Charlotte, the beaches are so popular they even have their own cool abbreviation: OBX.
Breezy as the beaches along the OBX are, expect them to be a bit balmier when compared to Redondo or the Jersey Shore. Dixieland and humidity go hand in hand, and the OBX is no outlier in this regard.
Aside from the scenic beaches, the Outer Banks are full of history, and hosts sites including a Civil War Trail through Roanoke and Hatteras islands, and a monument commemorating the Wright’s brothers first successful flight.
The Outer Banks also hosts diverse wildlife, and has become a destination for bird watching. It’s home to a handful of fowl sanctuaries including the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge and the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge.
But for Kylie Hammonds, nothing beats vibes that a beach conjures, from slower living to drinks with umbrellas.
“It’s just really relaxing,” Kylie said. “I don’t think there’s anything like sitting by the beach all day long getting tan, just being in the water and then going home and taking a nap and going to dinner. I just think that that’s just the best feeling in the world.”
